One of South Mississippi's greatest natural assets is the DeSoto National Forest. This lush pine forest features rolling hills dotted with native hardwoods, flora, fauna, and native species like the white-tailed deer. It is accessible to Tradition residents through nature trails developed in conjunction with National Forest Service representatives. The mixture of existing, and proposed, trails will allow for not only for scenic hikes, bird watching, and communing with nature, but also equestrian outings.
To preserve this environmental jewel, the Tradition staff is working closely with Forest Service officials to make sure that appropriate fire protection methods are used including the addition of fire breaks and use of controlled burns. These practices, along with use of appropriate building materials, will help Tradition achieve the goal of becoming a FireWise Community. For additional details on this program, please click here.
